VWSA supports Ubuntu Pathways in community upliftment projects

  • VWSA has offered support to Ubuntu Pathways since 2006
  • New VW Crafter handed over to assist with transport needs

Zwide – In line with its priorities of empowering communities through education and youth development initiatives, Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) has expanded its support of Ubuntu Pathways by providing a vehicle to the organisation.

VWSA handed over a 23-seater Volkswagen Crafter to the Zwide-based non-profit organisation on Thursday 31 March.

Ubuntu Pathways has provided an integrated support system of health, education and social support for 23 years in the community of Zwide, empowering youth through various initiatives covering their journey from cradle to career.

As a long-standing partner to Ubuntu Pathways, VWSA has offered support through funding since 2006.

The new Crafter, which will be provided to the organisation for a period of three years, will be used to transport learners to and from the Ubuntu Pathways premises, and to other after-school activities.

“VWSA’s incredibly generous donation supports our joint belief that access to world-class education is every child’s right, not a privilege,” said Gcobani Zonke, Deputy President of Ubuntu Pathways. “Ubuntu Pathways has spent the last 23 years developing a holistic pathway that takes children and families from vulnerability to stability and success. We are placing 2 000 vulnerable children and their families on pathways out of poverty, from cradle to career.

“This vehicle is an incredible asset. It allows us to transport children who otherwise could not afford to get to school every day to our campus. Because of VWSA, they will enjoy the benefits of world-class education and comprehensive health care.”

“As VWSA we have long since believed in the importance of empowering the youth, and communities at large, to build brighter futures,” said Nonkqubela Maliza, VWSA’s Director for Corporate and Government Affairs. “Through our long-standing support of Ubuntu Pathways, we have actively contributed to community upliftment in Nelson Mandela Bay, and we will continue to prioritise and promote youth development as a caring corporate citizen.”
