With fuel prices rising, efficiency matters more than ever – and JAC Motors delivers. The recently launched T6 2.0L CTi single-cab further strengthens the brand’s fuel-efficient line-up, recording as little as 6.1 L/100 km in local testing. It joins the T8 (6.1 L/100 km) and T9 (6.2 L/100 km), both tested at the Gerotek Testing Facilities, giving customers a T-Series range that consistently delivers excellent fuel efficiency.
JAC Motors South Africa leads the local battery-electric truck segment, helping fleet operators save hundreds of thousands of rands on fuel each month. More than 60 JAC electric trucks have travelled over three million kilometres locally since 2021, with records showing savings of over 50% in fuel, more than 70% in maintenance, and a 12.75% reduction in total cost of ownership.
“Since introducing the JAC Motors brand nearly a decade ago, our products have earned a strong reputation for excellent fuel economy – a key buying motivator in the bakkie and truck segments,” says Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa. “Our EV trucks further strengthen this reputation, reinforcing the low cost of ownership across our range.”
In April 2025, JAC Motors broke the South African 24-hour endurance record for commercial vehicles, which had stood for 15 years. Its T9 2.0L CTi covered 4,084 km at an average speed of 170.1 km/h on the Gerotek oval track. At the same time, a T9 2.0L CTi and a T8 2.0L CTi underwent fuel economy testing at the same facility. Driven at 115 km/h until their 76-litre tanks ran dry, the T9 achieved 1,226 km at 6.2 L/100 km, while the T8 reached 1,246 km at 6.1 L/100 km.
JAC Motors South Africa is expanding its T-Series in July with its new T9 PHEV, featuring a 31,2 kWh Gotion High-Tech LFP battery that delivers around 100 kilometres of electric-only range. For city commuters travelling approximately 100 kilometres daily, fuel consumption can drop below 2 L/100 km, as the engine is used minimally, making the T9 PHEV an exceptionally fuel-efficient choice.
“Our fuel-efficient T-Series offers a product for every need, from workhorse to lifestyle, all delivering excellent fuel economy that saves owners thousands of rands over time,” adds Göbel. “Saving just 2 L/100 km, with an expected diesel price of R30 per litre due to geopolitical uncertainty, equates to 200 litres over 10,000 km – a massive saving of R6,000.”
“For more than two-and-a-half years, JAC Motors South Africa has not increased retail prices, while extending warranties and service plans on selected models to keep motoring costs low,” concludes Göbel. “With the T6 2.0L CTi single-cab starting at R299,900 (VAT incl.), fleet operators benefit from both lower fuel and acquisition costs.”
JAC Motors South Africa has a network of over 70 dealers across Southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique (independent). This extensive footprint ensures that after-sales service meets global standards, delivering a consistent, positive customer experience across the region.
Founded 61 years ago in China, JAC Motors today offers a full range of passenger cars, pick-ups and trucks for both left- and right-hand-drive markets. Operating in over 130 countries, the company holds strategic partnerships across multiple automotive-related industries.
