Midrand – The Citroën C3 has been named one of the 18 finalists to vie for the prestigious Old Mutual Insure 2024 Car of the Year (COTY) title. The 38th running of the South African COTY competition recognises excellence in new vehicles launched to the local market and is judged by a professional jury of some of the best motoring media in the country.
Citroën’s new C3 was launched last year in the hotly contested B-segment, those entry-level compact cars that account for nearly half of the passenger car market. Its unique character makes for the ideal South African proposition, reveling in the practical requirements of customers in typically chic Citroën style.
Run by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ), their jury noted the Citroën C3’s exceptional value for money in selecting it as one of two finalists in the Budget and Compact category.
Congratulating finalists at the announcement, Chairperson of the 2023 and 2024 COTY Committee and Vice-Chairperson of the SAGMJ, Mabuyane Mabuza, said: “Rapid technological advances intensify the annual competition, with innovative features becoming commonplace, even in entry-level vehicles, showcasing the evolution of automotive technology.”
The Citroën C3 was conceived for progressive customers, offering class-leading infotainment on board and the ability to customise with optional accessory packs to suit your style. Along with robust service and warranty back-up, it’s small wonder the Citroën C3 was already named the 2023 World Urban Car.
“We’re excited to be part of Car of the Year once again with the innovative Citroën C3,” says Mike Whitfield, Managing Director of Stellantis SA. “It’s a product that really excites the market, and clearly the jury of the country’s motoring specialists, too. We wish the jury well in their tough task of evaluating the finalists.”
The COTY competition moves to the next phase in March, when the Citroën C3 will join the 17 other finalists for the stringent testing phase at Zwartkops Raceway before the final automated scoring.
The Motor Enthusiast’s Choice provides an opportunity for the South African public to vote for their finalist of choice. So do two things soon: go test drive a Citroën C3 at a dealer near you to understand what’s got the COTY jury so excited; and then vote.
