Joining the SAGMJ holds several benefits for journalists and industry professionals.

The SAGMJ offers different membership types:

Full Membership* is for members who create motoring content (either reporting on new cars, motorcycles, trucks or National or International Motorsport or relevant photography) on a full-time basis, i.e. not involved in creating any other content.
Affiliate Membership* is for members who create motoring content (either reporting on new cars, motorcycles, trucks, National or international motorsport, or relevant photography) on a part-time basis, i.e. involved in creating other content.
Associate Membership is for members who do not create journalistic content but are somehow involved in the motor industry.

*Both Full- and Affiliate Membership require that the member serves a probationary membership period.

The SAGMJ provides a tailored Accident Group Policy to Fellow, Full, Affiliate and Associate members. In the past, members have enjoyed actual payouts, including medical refunds and loss of income claims. Some unique benefits include racetrack cover, emergency evacuation, highjacking, criminal victim therapy, etc. Accident insurance would normally cost thousands of Rand per year on an individual basis. When you join the SAGMJ, you are automatically covered, with an option to extend your insurance coverage at a nominal amount.
